I Am Thankful For – 11/22/16

I am thankful for many people in my life. A few I’m thankful for my Mother, Father and little Sister. They create joy, and make my life interesting. My Sister is a huge part of my life, I do not know what I would do without her. She always finds a way to brighten my days. My mother and Father both help and lead me in the right direction. I don’t know where I’d be as a person without them in my life. I’m Thankful for the idiots of high school, because they show me exactly who I don’t want to be. But yet there is a couple that I can actually stand to be around. A couple of these people are, Gage Daughtery, Isabella Tesmer, Elizabeth Bolender, and Grace Erhardt. Grace Erhardt always knows how to bring light into my life. I enjoy being around her, shes like my big sister. I actually persuaded her to cut all of her hair off. Isabella Tesmer gets on my nerves, she really does. But she makes me laugh. She likes to push me around, but she shares her paper when I need it. Elizabeth Bolender makes the best milkshakes in the whole world. She always where’s the cutest shoes and always comes to me for help in geometry class. I like that, it makes me feel smart. And finally… Gage Daughtery. He thinks he’s the coolest. He’s not. He always lets me complain to him.  I’ve been friends with the kid for years. I hope to be friends, and know him for a lot longer than high school.

Maycomb Tribune, Mr. Underwood – 11/20/16

Maycomb Tribune

I believe racial prejudice is a disgrace of Maycomb County.

On this controversial subject, I believe the color of your skin should not be taken as an advantage or disadvantage in this case.  Tom Robinson was accused of raping the white woman, by the name of Mayella Ewell.  Tom Robinson was immediately sent to jail.  A mob of farmers arrived to a scene that night.  Ready to take Tom Robinson’s life.  Yet they’d have to get through Atticus Finch First.

Would you stand up for Robinson like Mr. Finch did?  The issue of this case was these men were going to take Mr. Robinsons life because they couldn’t get past the fact that he was colored. The community has gotten and now has been exposed to the bad image of this innocent black man.  What if YOU were in this situation?  How would YOU feel?

Think about how the town would react to a white man accused of raping a white woman. There wouldn’t be near as much trouble as Tom Robinson is going through today.  Atticus Finch, a man of his word, is putting his life in danger to save another.

The farmers of Maycomb County believe that Tom Robinson is to die for his crime.  Atticus Finch will fight for this humble African American who the town of Maycomb has a huge dislike for.   Jem Finch and Scout Finch soon arrive to the scene.  Scout persuades them to stop, she makes them believe “entailments are bad.”  She reminds them of their own families and lives.  The farmers back down and leave Tom Robinson and Atticus Finch without a scratch.

Maycomb County needs to be broken out of the shell of segregation and racism.  My solution to this problem would be to put yourself in Tom Robinson’s place.  To try and understand instead of directly assuming because of skin color or race.  These men who were going to execute Mr. Robinson.  Robinson hadn’t even made it to trial yet!

Last night I had Mr. Finches and Mr. Robinsons backs.  I was watching out that window ready for whatever those men were going to throw their way.  Yet again I will say, this whole situation disgraces Maycomb County, Tom Robinson is a person who’s life is just as valuable as yours.          – Mr. Underwood

11/3/16 – Re-opening of Emmett Till’s case questions.

  1. What controversial decision did Mamie Mobley make regarding her son’s funeral?

Mamie Mobley decided to allow the casket to be open to reveal what had happened to her son. She wanted the town to see her sons body, that had been destroyed. She wanted the people to feel and see her pain that the murder caused.

2. What role did Keith Beauchamp and Stanley Nelson play in the re-opening of the Emmett Till murder trial?

Beauchamp and Nelson both were very involved in the Emmett Till case.  Keith Beauchamp was very interested and obsessed with the case.  He has traveled the country, showing his unfinished documentary, “The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till,” arguing to re-open the case. Stanley Nelson created his Emmy-winning film, “The Murder of Emmett Till.”

3. How does Mr. Nelson feel about having made the film “The Murder of Emmett Till”?

Mr. Nelson feels very blessed to be able to create a piece like this. He said himself,

“It’s a great feeling, it’s an incredible feeling, to be a bit part of this,” Mr. Nelson said of the Justice Department’s re-examination of the case. “The film was hard to make, it was emotional to make, it was also an honor to make.”

10/13/16 – Vocabulary Word Prompts.

Prompt #1.

What really scares me the most in life is ending up alone. I don’t want myself to end up in a dilemma that I cant get myself out of. That would be very difficult and cumbersome for me to handle. My sadness would be perennial, almost lasting forever. I need family, love and affection. Without that I would be such a muddle. I would hope someone would come along and salvage my heart from the loneliness.

Prompt #2.

The most inspiring person in my life would have to be my Mother. My Mother would never tell me anything spurious. She seems to always look at the brighter side of things. She finds the good in everything. She treats everyone with respect, no matter how cumbersome they may be. She always knows how to brighten my day. Her happiness is unbridled, I don’t think she knows how to control it. She’s that happy of a person. But every now in then, she has her moments when she’s very opinionated. When she’s upset its very spasmodic. Then soon back to joyful. She has her days, But I still love this woman with all my heart. She has made a huge impact on my life. I don’t know where I would be today without her.

10/9/16 – Mix Tape Of My Life.

Taylor Swift would be the  mix tape of my life. Her concert was my first concert I had ever gone to. Seeing her made my heart skip beats. I bought her CD’s at that concert and my Mom still plays hem in the car to be funny because she knows I know ALL the words. I still love listening to her newest music. But when I was 8, she was my idol. I wanted to be just like her. Even for Christmas, I asked for a pink guitar to learn to play Taylors songs. (sadly, I never did.) Her lyrics make me feel a certain way.  To this day,  my favorite quote of Taylors is.. “Its he most maddening, beautiful, magical, horrible, painful, wonderful, joyous thing in the world LOVE.”

My favorite album is: Fearless

Favorite old songs of hers:

  1. Fearless
  2. Fifteen
  3. White Horse
  4. The way I loved you.

10/6/16, First Crush

My first crush was Chance Moore. I have went to school with him since Kindergarten. I liked him in 3rd grade. I remember at recess they would always have races around the playground and he would always win. I thought his name was wonderful, Chance. no one would have a chance at racing Chance, ha. He had the blondest hair, and had blue eyes and a really cute smile. He looks nothing like that now. (Chance if your reading this I’m sorry.)  He and Ryan Cooper would always do the dumbest stuff to make everyone laugh. I never let them know I liked him. I was quiet when I was little, so I never really talked to him. Were still friends till this day. I don’t remember much, but I do remember that I loved Chance Moore in the 3rd grade.
